Producer | About
James Rumsey is a BIFA Breakthrough Producer long-list nominee for his debut feature film 'My Feral Heart' (2016). His background is as a script consultant (Industrial Scripts, Matador Pictures and Kudos Television); and a first assistant director.
'My Feral Heart' won 14 international awards inc:
Best Feature, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Original Screenplay before James self-distributed the film in the UK.
Theatrically, the film became Britain's #1 cinema-on-demand film of all-time in partnership with ourscreen; a feat that Sight & Sound called: "an underdog triumph to be celebrated". SKY Cinema picked up on that achievement and, seeing that the film screened at over 100 cinemas at locations the length and breadth of the UK, they acquired the film for Pay-TV from March 2018.The home video release in partnership with Studio Soho Distribution (DVD)
and The Movie Partnership (digital retail) topped Amazon's "Movers and Shakers" chart in its week of release.
James continues to play a central role in the film's success, now working alongside the BFI for international sales.
James' DIY experience of the constantly evolving and increasingly competitive distribution market - in particular the alternative routes to market now available to Independent producers - has been invaluable and is at the forefront of the future strategy for Rum Jam Films.
The next Rum Jam production (2018) is winner of Best Unproduced Screenplay, New Orleans Horror Film Festival, and Oaxaca Film Festival Global Script Challenger Finalist: 'Coldfell' - a rural, revenge thriller a la 'Straw Dogs' and 'Deliverance'. Set amidst the vast beauty of the Scottish Highlands it features Gaelic and English dialogue and is a taut allegory for the tragic consequences of prejudicial intolerance, and our oft-misplaced desire for self-preservation.
Several other projects for the big screen and for TV are also in development. More details will be released as they progress.
